The Boys U19 are aging out this year and leave behind a series of great memories as well as numerous individual and team accomplishments. The core of the team played together for 10 years and was coached consistently by John Merritt and in the last couple of years Chris Murray.
The team worked it's way up to the Gold bracket for the last three years, winning tournaments along the way most recently the Hotspurs classic in San Diego and going undefeated it the college classic in Temecula a few months ago.
High School Success
The team recently had 10 starters on the San Clemente High School team who broke the school record for recording 20 wins in one season. Individually, Kyle Graham broke the record for no. of assists and was voted into the hall of fame. Louis Miguel tied the most goals scored in a season with 16 goals and 12 assists this year.
Johny Portillo holds the record for most goals in a season for Je Serra with 18 goals this year.
Matt Bisseri captained the Tesoro varsity team to the Pacific league title and was voted as a CIF all-star for the second consecutive year.
Matt Bisseri, Patish Patel, Luis Miguel, Cameron Crowe, Kyle Graham, Johny Portillo, Carlos Garcia, and Brian Merritt have all captained the high school team over the last couple of years demonstrating our desire as a club to teach leadership skills on and off the field.
We also had great success with our sophomores producing starting players at Santa Margarita, Je Serra, Mater Dei, Edison and El Dorado. Andy Martinez scored 15 goals and was voted as player of the week in the Orange County Register (the only sophomore to achieve the honor) Trevor Moylan scored the winner for Santa Margarita in the semi-finals of CIF as well as being awarded All Serra League honours as a sophomore for his impact in the league.
Professional Opportunities
Our players have had trials with professional team clubs in the U.S. and Mexican leagues. The club wishes our players the best of luck and support in the future for continued opportunites like this.
